Overview
About this service
Armenian citizenship can be acquired on several grounds set out in the Law of the Republic of Armenia "On Citizenship of the Republic of Armenia": Armenian origin, having a parent or child who is an Armenian citizen, marriage to an Armenian citizen, three years of lawful residence in Armenia, restoration of former citizenship, refugee or stateless status, and parents who previously held Armenian citizenship.
Since 1 January 2026, applications are filed exclusively through the electronic citizenship case management system at mcs-citizenship.am. After a preliminary review, the applicant presents original documents at an appointment. Applicants who are not of Armenian origin take a test on the Constitution of Armenia and the Armenian language. Citizenship is granted by decree of the President of the Republic of Armenia. Armenia permits dual citizenship.
Our job is careful preparation: we assess your grounds, build your document list, arrange apostille, translation and notarisation, file the application and support you at every stage. Decisions are made solely by the competent state authorities.

Stages
How the procedure works
- 1
Questionnaire and assessment
You choose a pathway and answer questions; the system gives a preliminary assessment.

A specialist confirms your grounds and prepares a personalised document list.
- 3
Document preparation
Apostille or legalisation, Armenian translation and notarisation.
- 4
Electronic filing
Preliminary application filed at mcs-citizenship.am and the state duty paid.
- 5
Originals appointment
Once the application is approved, a visit with originals and the test where required.
- 6

In-person attendance
Once the preliminary application is approved, you must attend in person with the originals of all documents at the Migration and Citizenship Service (17/10, 4th District, Davtashen, Yerevan) or, where provided, at an Armenian diplomatic mission. According to the official portal, appointments to present originals can currently be booked only in Armenia. The Constitution and Armenian language test is taken in person on site.

FAQ
Questions about this service
Who can obtain citizenship under the simplified procedure?
The law provides a simplified procedure, in particular, for people of Armenian origin, spouses, parents and children of Armenian citizens, and former citizens. The exact conditions depend on the pathway — we will assess your situation.
How do I prove Armenian origin?
With a document recording Armenian nationality: your birth certificate, a baptism certificate or the documents of parents or grandparents. One convincing document is enough. A surname alone is not proof.
Do I need to take a language and Constitution test?
According to the official portal, applicants who are not of Armenian origin take the test. It has 33 questions, lasts 1 hour and requires at least 17 correct answers to pass.
Will I have to give up my current citizenship?
Armenia permits dual citizenship. Your other country's laws may say otherwise — please check with its authorities.
How much does it cost and how long does it take?
The state fee for acquiring citizenship is 50,000 AMD (per the Armenian MFA). The preliminary application takes about 15 working days, and the decision is notified within 90 days of presenting originals. Translation, apostille and our fee are separate.
Can I apply from abroad?
The preliminary application is filed online from any country. Presenting the originals requires an in-person visit, and according to the official portal, appointments can currently be booked only in Armenia.
Do you guarantee citizenship?
No. Citizenship is granted by decree of the President of Armenia after review by the competent authorities. We are responsible for the quality of preparation, not for the state's decision.
