Overview

About this service

An individual entrepreneur (IE, Armenian ԱՁ) is the simplest way for one person to run a business in Armenia. IE registration is carried out by the Agency of the State Register of Legal Entities of the Ministry of Justice; when a complete set of documents is filed in person, registration is generally made immediately.

We handle the preparation: collecting information about your activity, helping you select codes from the classifier of economic activities, checking documents and translations, arranging payment of the state duty and supporting the filing. The registration decision rests solely with the competent authority.

After registration, choosing the right tax regime matters. We give general orientation on the existing regimes (turnover tax, micro-enterprise, general regime) and refer you to a qualified tax or accounting adviser for an individual decision.

Who it's for

  • Freelancers and professionals starting work in Armenia
  • Foreign nationals planning to do business in Armenia
  • Armenian citizens who want help with preparation and filing
  • Entrepreneurs deciding between an IE and an LLC

What you get

  • A clear document list tailored to your situation
  • Help selecting activities from the classifier
  • Passport and notarised translation checked before filing
  • General tax regime orientation and referral to an adviser
  • Support in Russian, Armenian and English

Requirements

Key requirements

  • 1Armenian citizens and foreign nationals may register as an IE (according to the official public services portal).
  • 2A foreign national needs a passport with a notarised Armenian translation.
  • 3Online filing is available only with an Armenian ID card and an electronic signature; otherwise the application is filed in person or through a representative.
  • 4Some activities require a licence or permit; this is checked before registration.
This is preliminary general information, not legal advice. Requirements depend on your situation and may change — a specialist will confirm them before we start.

Documents

Document checklist

The basic list. The exact set depends on your situation — after the questionnaire you get a personal checklist.

  • Passport or ID card

A valid identity document. The original is presented at filing.

    RequiredOriginal
  • Notarised Armenian translation of the passport

    Required for non-Armenian citizens.

    Depends on your situationArmenian translationNotarisation
  • State duty payment receipt

Proof of payment of the duty for a paper application (via e-payments or bank transfer).

    Required
  • Description of planned activity

A short description used to select activity codes from the classifier. Prepared together with us.

    Required
  • Notarised power of attorney

Needed if our specialist files on your behalf. A power of attorney executed abroad may need an apostille and translation — to be confirmed by a specialist.

  • Documents for licensed activity

If the activity needs a licence or permit, the list is determined separately for that activity.

    Depends on your situation

Foreign documents usually require an apostille or consular legalisation and a notarised Armenian translation. We will tell you exactly what your case needs.

Stages

How the procedure works

  1. 1

    Request and questionnaire

You complete the questionnaire about your activity and documents; we review the initial information.

  2. 2

    Activity selection

We agree the activity codes with you and check whether a licence is needed.

  3. 3

    Document preparation

We arrange the notarised passport translation (for foreign nationals) and payment of the state duty.

  4. 4

    Filing

We accompany you to an Agency service centre or file under a power of attorney where permitted.

  5. 5

    After registration

We hand over the extract, explain next steps and refer you to a tax adviser on choosing a regime.

In-person attendance

Without an Armenian ID card and electronic signature, the application is filed in person at a service centre of the Agency of the State Register of Legal Entities or by a representative under a power of attorney. The original passport (for foreign nationals, with a notarised Armenian translation) and the state duty receipt must be presented.

Our role

What we do — and what we don't

What we do

  • Collect and structure information about your planned activity
  • Help select activities from the classifier (NACE-based)
  • Check that documents are complete and arrange the notarised passport translation
  • Explain how to pay the state duty
  • Book and accompany your visit to a service centre, or file under a power of attorney where permitted
  • Give general tax regime orientation and refer you to a tax or accounting adviser

What we don't do

  • We are not the state register and do not make registration decisions
  • We do not guarantee registration and cannot influence processing times
  • We do not provide accounting services or individual tax opinions; we refer you to qualified specialists instead
  • We do not handle tax reporting after registration

FAQ

Questions about this service

How long does IE registration take?

According to the official portal, registration is made immediately once a complete application is filed. Preparing documents, including the passport translation, usually takes a few working days.

Can a foreign national register as an IE?

Yes, the official portal states the service is available to foreign nationals. You will need a passport with a notarised Armenian translation.

What is the state duty?

For a paper application the official portal lists a duty of AMD 3,000. Online filing for holders of an ID card with an electronic signature is listed as free. Amounts are re-checked before filing.

Will you help me choose a tax regime?

We explain which regimes exist and what the choice depends on, but we do not give individual tax opinions. For the decision we refer you to a tax or accounting adviser.

What is the activity classifier?

At registration you specify economic activities using the Armenian classifier based on the European NACE. We help you choose the codes that match your work.

Can I register without visiting in person?

Online, if you have an Armenian ID card and electronic signature. Otherwise filing through a representative under a notarised power of attorney is possible where permitted; POA requirements are confirmed by a specialist.
