Overview
About this service
The passport of a citizen of the Republic of Armenia certifies identity and citizenship and is used to leave and return to Armenia. Citizens aged 16 and over apply in person; a passport for a child under 16 is applied for by a parent or other legal representative.
Armenia is moving to a new biometric identity-document system. According to the head of the Migration and Citizenship Service, the new Law “On Identification Documents” enters into force on 1 November 2026: old-format passports will no longer be produced, and the new biometric passport will be issued to citizens who hold an ID card. An existing old-format passport may be used until it expires. Since 5 October 2026, passport issuance and replacement through embassies and consulates has been temporarily suspended.
We help you understand the rules in force, prepare documents, pay the duty, book an appointment and get ready for the in-person visit. The decision to issue a passport rests solely with the competent authority.

Stages
How the procedure works
- 1
Request
You complete the questionnaire; we confirm your grounds for applying and the rules in force.
- 2
Document preparation
Checklist, review and, where needed, notarised translations and duty payment.
- 3
Booking and in-person appointment
We help you book. You apply in person; your photograph and biometric data are captured.
- 4
Passport collection
The passport is collected at the same office where you applied, within the official timeframe.
In-person attendance
Citizens aged 16 and over must apply in person at their chosen Migration and Citizenship Service office, by appointment or in the walk-in queue; biometric data is captured for a biometric passport. Original documents must be presented. The passport is collected in person at the same office. Each visitor, regardless of age, needs a separate appointment. Persons aged 75 and over, persons with disabilities and pregnant women, among others, are served without an appointment.
